I want to share with you my summer make-up essentials and how to make your make-up look beautiful with these boiling summer temperatures we are experiencing now.
I will teach you how to get the best out of your summer make-up.
The heat, the humidity, you are sweating and the major question is what kind of make-up can you wear so that you can still look good?
What make-up is best for summer?
When it comes to the summer season, it is the best time to show case your natural glow and eccentuate it through different products.
Summer make-up essentials you have to own:
Sunscreen
With the ever growing threat of high UV radiation we must take particular care to our skin.
UV rays are very dangerous and according to many scientific studies cause cancer and accelerated skin ageing.
It is important to wear sunscreen or UV protection at all times.
Primer
A primer is particularly important in making sure your make-up holds up in this heat and humidity.
The primer can prolong the staying power of your make-up and avoid it melting off.
A good primer on it’s own can blur out imperfections.
BB cream, CC cream or tinted moisturisers
If you are not a fan of foundation in general and cannot bear the though of feeling you have something heavy on your face. BB creams, CC creams and tinted moisturisers are the way to go!
These are light formulas which give sheer coverage
The aadvantage of using these is that they are very light and give you a hint of colour for sheer coverage.
Concealer
When it’s so hot, you may want to avoid your foundation if you can’t bear to wear it.
The trick is to lightly put concelear in your problem areas. For example, under you eyes or some stubborn spots.
Bear in mind that under you will have your sunscreen and good primer to blur out any imperfections.
Foundation
Foundation in the heat can be very hit and miss. I particularly love wearing foundation in general.
The last thing you want is transfer or it removing, increased oils coming through. The list goes on depending on the foundation.
There are some tricks you can incorporate to make sure your foundation stays put. These include the use of a:
- Primer
- Setting spray of powder (you can blot during the day with fine setting powder to refresh your make-up)
Bronzers and Highlighters
These are going to be your summer make-up essentials, in summer try to go for bronze colours and highlight to further accentuate your natural glow.
Setting spray and setting powder
The use of setting sprays and powders will prolong the staying power of your base as well as being able to refresh it.
Make sure that if you use a setting powder you blot it on rather than pile on powder, the less the better!
Eyebrow pencil
Focusing on beautiful natural looking brows can be life saver in this summer heat.
You could opt for just a beautiful curated brow and a hint of mascara.
I do advise that you go for eye pencil sort of textures rather than eyebrow pomade as the last thing you want is your brows to melt off.
Mascara
Mascara is one of my essential make-up products, because with mascara you just tackle your lashes and it’s as simple as that.
Sometimes less is more, and I find that wearing just mascara on it’s own is perfect in summer.
The last thing you probably want in this heat is to wear fake lashes, eyeliner and a full eye look.
Eye pens
Eye pens are my summer must have’s as they can give your eyelid a boost of colour without the need of eyeshadow.
You can just pop the eye pen directly on your lid and hey presto you are not piling on eye make-up.
Lip gloss
Lip glosses can give you that finishing touch during the summer time.
They will also help your lips look more full and moist.
10 Tips on how to wear make-up in the summer heat
With the heat and humidity contributing to oily faces and melting make-up everywhere I think that the below tips will help you avoid these major make-up Faux pas.
You are at the pool, or out on a shopping trip with 35°C heat and humidity. Your make-up is transferring left, right and centre. You are sweating and it’s running down your for head and the make up is melting off.
A total make-up horror story!
Here is some useful tips you can apply so that your make-up stays snatched in this scorching heat.
- Use a primer.
- Liquid foundation is best rather than those which have a creamy texture.
- If you are not a fan of foundation use BB creams, CC creams or tinted moisturisers.
- Use a concealer that is not cream based but rather full.
- Use eyeshadow primer if you decide to do an eye make-up look.
- Use bronzer and highlight tones to enhance your natural glow.
- Use fine setting powder and by blotting, the last thing you want to do is to make your make-up cakey by applying layer over layer of powder.
- Get your hands on some make-up blotting paper.
- Use a setting spray or Mist to keep the make-up in place or to refresh during the day/evening.
- Opt for vibrant lip colours or neutral ones.

My summer make-up look
For the perfect summer make-up look, if there’s one thing I learnt from the experts is that less is more!
When it’s really hot and you are at the beach, at the pool or even out shopping the last thing you want is to looked like a dripping mess of sweat or caked in make up.
Your pores are going to start to show, your oils will be coming through, you may even end up with streaks on your face.
I opted for a natural summer make-up look which focuses on my natural glow.
