If you are new to the world of microcurrent devices, this post will help you decide on which microcurrent gel you might want to invest in.
There are plenty of options on the Internet but what’s truly important is to figure out what works well for both your skin and your financial needs.
Facial microcurrent devices need a conductive gel to allow the microcurrent to work it’s way effectively deep within the skin.
One key factor you need to take into consideration is that the microcurrent gel you pair your device with will be absorbed deeply within your skin, so it’s important you choose the right conductive gels.
Ingredients to avoid within microcurrent gels
It is important to steer clear of OIL within facial microcurrent gels.
The oil will act as a shield to the current and won’t allow the microcurrent device to work into your skin.
Yes, we all have some oil in our skin but the type of oil based gels I am talking about have an excess of oils as opposed to your natural oils.
There’s also plenty of synthetic skin nasties you should stay away from such as PEGs and parabens. Make sure you always go through the ingredients in order to avoid skin problems.
Properties to embrace within microcurrent gels
There are a series of properties to embrace when choosing the right microcurrent gel, which include:
- Anti-ageing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and vitamins.
- A slippery type of texture to allow the device to glide on the face without causing skin irritation.
- Hydrating properties such as in Hyaluronic acid or Squalene.
- Soothing properties such as those in Aloe Vera gels.
- Conductive mineral based gels which help with conductivity.
The importance of taking off your make-up and cleansing before a facial microcurrent treatment
This is one section you don’t want to miss reading!
Have you scoured the Internet to find the right microcurrent gel for your skin and found people who have suffered with acne breakouts or cystic type acne after the treatment?
Let me tell you why it happens and most importantly how to avoid it!
Remember that the microcurrent device works on the basis of delivering microcurrent to your skin layers/face muscles as well as allowing the deep absorbtion of your skincare products.
So think about it this way, if you didn’t remove your make-up fully by double cleansing or even cleanse to remove the skins excess oil, impurities or dirt, what do you think is going to happen when you do your microcurrent treatment?
Yes! You got it! It’s going to push the make-up, impurities, dirt, excess oil deep into your skin!!! That’s literally a recipe for disaster!
The deeper layer of your skin will become inflammed and you will exhibit breakouts!
Make sure that if you wear make-up you double cleanse and if not just make sure you cleanse at least once.
Factors to consider before buying a microcurrent conductive gel
Before you buy a microcurrent gel consider:
- Your skin type
- Your skin concerns you want to target
- Your budget
- Your brand value needs (vegan, cruelty free or alcohol free)
I have tried and tested the NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel and the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM. So I’m going to give you all the low down and some microcurrent gel alternatives.
The NuFACE Hydrating Leave-On Gel Primer
The NuFace gel comes enclosed in a squeeze tube in the exact typical NuFace branding.
You can purchase this in 3 different sizes:
- 2oz (59ml)
- 5oz (143ml)
- 10oz (280ml)
If like me you got yours with your NuFace Trinity you will have the 2oz gel.
The formula
The Hydrating Leave-On Gel Primer is a lightweight, velvety gel that hydrates and protects against dehydration while activating your microcurrent devices.
The NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel contains two key skin ingredients:
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Phytomoist complex
The Hyaluronic acid has the innate ability to lock hydration into the skin and reduce visibly the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
They don’t call it the elixir of beauty for no reason.
The Phytomoist complex helps with making the skin smooth, soft and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
This formula allows for the NuFace gel to reinvigorate and refreshen the skin during the facial microcurrent treatment.
The NuFace gel is cruelty free, FDA cleared, animal by-product free and aesthetician approved.
The texture
When it comes down to the NuFace microcurrent gel texture, we are talking about a smooth velvety gel which absorbs quickly and allows the facial microcurrent device to glide effortlessly.
This particular microcurrent gel can also be used as a primer to give skin a boost of hydration even when you don’t use the device.
I would say that this particular gel dries down to a slightly tacky consistency until its fully absorbed and feels smooth.
One limitation of the NuFace primer gel is that it is fast absorbing so when you carry out the microcurrent treatment my best advice is to work in sections of your face so that you don’t get zapped by your microcurrent device.
How to use the NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel
Using the NuFace gel is as easy as following the below steps:
- Remove all make-up and cleanse your skin.
- Make sure your skin is completely dry.
- Apply the NuFace microcurrent gel in sections, so do your microcurrent treatment in sections so that the gel doesn’t dry down.
- Reapply more if it dries.
- Once you’ve finished massage any residue into the skin.
You actually don’t need to rinse this facial microcurrent conductive gel as it contains skincare.
Don’t forget that you can use this gel as a primer even when you don’t use your microcurrent device.
Do you have to use the NuFace gel with the NuFace Trinity?
I generally find that using the own brand gel with the microcurrent devices works well as they have been designed to work together.
However, you can go ahead an experiment and see what works best on your skin and your wallet.
Where to buy the NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel
From my research I noticed that purchasing directly from NuFace gets you the best bargains.
At the moment they have a sale whereby their 2oz NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel is only £8! Such a bargain!
I love that they offer 15% off if you subscribe to their delivery service where you can set after how many months you want to receive a microcurrent gel replenishment.
Before and After using the NuFace Trinity and Nuface gel
I enjoyed using the NuFace microcurrent gel, you do have to apply a thick layer of it when you use it with the NuFace Trinity.
Whereas with the Foreo Bear collection you tend to use way less as the Foreo Bears have an Anti-shock system which adjusts the microcurrent based on your skin levels.
As you can see the results are noticeable, my cheekbones look more defined, my smile line looks smoother and overall my skin looks much better.
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM is a luxurious microcurrent gel, not only does it come in a beautiful glass pump in gold finish but even the texture oozes luxury.
The Foreo microcurrent gel contains only 30ml of product but together with the Antishock system of the Bear you tend to use way less than with other microcurrent devices.
The Formula
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM is a micro-capsule based gel formula.
It contains two ingredients which really will give you instant results:
- Hyaluronic acid which is able to lock in moisture and make your skin smooth and plump. Your skin will look younger instantly.
- Squalene which acts as an anti-oxidant which balances oil production, reduces the signs of ageing and protects your skin. Your skin will look healthy and younger. This particular ingredient is perfect for sensitive skin type or skin who suffers from breakouts.
This duo is epic as it provides deep moisture to the skin and then gets it locked in!
This is a micro-capsule formula which will act as an easily absorbable product that reaches deep within the skin.
This facial microcurrent gel formula ensures the skin is left looking healthy, glowing, plump, smooth, soft and younger.
This Foreo microcurrent gel is fragrance free, cruelty free, vegan, dermatologically tested, mineral oil free, EDTA free, silicones free, sulfates free, alcohol free, Phenoxyethanol free and Disodium free.
The texture
The consistency of this microcurrent gel is lightweight and allows the microcurrent device to glide effortlessly onto your skin.
After application the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM absorbers readily and doesn’t leave behind a tacky residue.
How to use the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM is simple to use, all you have to do is:
- Remove all your makeup and cleanse your skin. I cleanse with my Foreo Luna 3 or my Luna 3 Mini.
- Make sure your face is completely dry before starting including your hairline.
- Massage 2-3 pumps in a circular motion of the Foreo microcurrent gel onto your face and neck.
- Reapply in sections the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM and carry out your microcurrent treatment.
- Once finished massage any remaining serum into the skin.
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM can be also used on it’s own as a primer for a boost of hydration and anti-aging properties.
I like to use the Foreo serum with my Luna 3 firming massage mode on the days I don’t do my microcurrent treatment.
I particularly enjoy that less microcurrent gel is needed with this Foreo alternative as the Foreo Bear and Bear Mini have an Anti-shock system feature and make sure you don’t get zapped.
Where to buy the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM
I would purchase the Foreo microcurrent gel directly from Foreo, bear in mind that it retails at £48.
I think considering both the high end formula and packaging make the price justifiable.
*every Foreo device provides you with a 2ml sample of the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM so you can test it yourself and see if it works for your skin.
Before and After using the Foreo Bear, Bear Mini and Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM
I love using the Foreo microcurrent gel serum it just oozes luxury.
As you can tell from the pictures my skin looks much better after using the Foreo Bear in conjuction with the Foreo serum. There’s no doubt about it.
My skin looks younger, clear, smooth and my expressions lines appear non existent.
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM vs NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel Primer
When it comes down to the direct comparison of the Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM and Nuface Hydrating Leave-on Gel Primer there’s a few key points to take away.
In terms of packaging, Foreo has gone all out with this luxurious gold finish pump whereas NuFace has taken a more affordable approach and settled with a squeeze tube.
Both dispensers make it easy to release the product.
In terms of formula Foreo have opted for a very well thought out microcurrent gel which is free of nasties and includes anti-ageing skincare ingredients.
The Foreo microcurrent gel includes hyaluronic acid as well as Squalene, so not only is it an anti-ageing, hydrating formula but it has the ability to balance oils.
The Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM is also cruelty free, vegan and alcohol free.
The NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel Primer contains hyaluronic acid and Phytomoist complex.
Although this formula is cruelty free and FDA cleared, it mentions it is animal by product free.
I have devised a Foreo SERUM SERUM SERUM vs NuFace Hydrating Leave-on Gel Primer comparison table to make it easier for you to come to a decision when choosing your microcurrent gel.
Which microcurrent gel alternatives can you use?
The types of microcurrent gel alternatives you can use include:
- Water based serum
- Water based gel
- Aloe vera based gel
- Glycerin based serums
- Gel like serums
You can use whichever serum, toner, mask or moisture you love as long as you MAKE SURE IT IS OIL FREE AND WATER BASED.
Ultrasound gel is an option for facial microcurrent treatment. It will work as a good conductive gel without the skincare benefits of skincare based gels.
People unfortunately tend to develop redness and irritation using ultrasound gel.
*if you use an ultrasound gel make sure you rinse it off after use.
The final verdict
Overall, I would say that actually both formulas work well with each microcurrent device.
It really depends what your skin needs. Skin which produces oils is best off opting for the Foreo microcurrent gel.
If you have sensitive skin or inflamed skin (possibly acne to) the Foreo serum serum serum is great as it doesn’t have any nasties and is fragrance free.
If you have dry skin, combination skin or need anti-ageing both options will work amazing for you.
The Foreo gel is vegan so is suitable for all my vegan troopers.
I hope you enjoyed this post. If you want to know more about the Foreo Bear, Bear Mini or NuFace Trinity check out my other blog posts.
