How to prepare for your 16 week midwife appointment

As always make sure you are hydrated as you will need to give that dreaded urine sample.

Also, don’t forget your antenatal notes as this should be with you always for any appointment.

My experience at the 16 week antenatal appointment

I was booked in with one of the midwives and this is what to expect at this appointment.

I was asked to provide a urine sample.

The nurses measured my blood pressure and asked me about my weight.

The weird thing is no one ever weighs you which always surprises me.

Then, the midwife will call you in and go through your nuchal test and ensure your anomaly scan is booked.

She will ensure you had either your combined screening test or quadruple testing.

She will also do any referrals if you have any issues after she reassess how you are feeling and doing.

I do have a few concerns surrounding my pregnancy and these have been investigated properly to ensure a safe pregnancy.

Last but not least and this is the best part you will get to hear the babies heart beat which is just the sweetest thing.

As you can tell that was my favourite part out of all of it.

This appointment is very much straightforward. You may want to bring along a loved one to experience that sweet heartbeat.

However, bear in mind that if you have any health issues you will have already had referral appointments with specialist consultants.

I have had my cardiologist consultant appointment, my fibroid appointment and checks for occasional spotting bleeding that I tend to exhibit in all my pregnancies.
