I can’t believe we are just over the 36 week mark. Here is what to expect at your 36 week antenatal appointment.
So much has changed physically and emotionally in this trimester. It has really hit me like a whirlwind.
My biggest struggle has been dealing with my non-stop urinary tract infection as I am always GBS positive.
It’s been a constant use of antibiotics from the beginning of my pregnancy as well as feeling uncomfortable from the UTI.
Also, it is normal to feel a lot anxiety with pregnancy in general. Hoping that everything is proceeding well.
How to prepare for your 36 week midwife appointment
Make sure you take your maternity notes with you as this is something you have to have always with you till you give birth.
Make sure you are hydrated and have a little snack.
What to expect 36 week midwife appointment
Arrive at your antenatal clinic and check in.
As usual they will take your vitals which include: your blood pressure and heart rate.
They will then take your urine sample and dip test it for various things. As usual my sample came back positive for white cells, which for ma can only mean one thing. My dreaded urinary tract infection also known as GBS.
However, it’s not as quick as this identifying it. They still have to send the sample to the laboratory.
The report will give them the exact issue in this case bacteria I have causing the infection as well as giving the which antibiotic it is sensitive or resistant to.
I basically have a chronic streptococcus B infection.
Then the midwife went through my birth plan and explained things I wasn’t aware of such as the Vitamin K injection which is given for blood clotting issues that may or not be there and delayed umbilical cord clamping.
We then went through the little ones position where she had a feel for my abdomen. My baby is ready head down.
Last but not least we had a listen to determine the baby’s heart rate which is my absolute favourite part.
The midwife then asked if I wanted to have my 38 week appointment booked which I didn’t need as I am booked a week later to have the baby so she didn’t feel there was a necessity to have this appointment.
