WHAT HAPPENS AT YOUR 28 WEEK APPOINTMENT?

My 28 week appointment was with my midwife and honestly I couldn’t be luckier as she is so adorable.

She will assess all my previous results and go through them with me.

I had the Glucose tolerance test the week before, so she had the results at hand and needless to say I passed and there is no gestational diabetes.

However, my previous urine test results came up as a mixed culture which doesn’t necessarily mean an infection but rather that the sample got contaminated so I was asked to produce a sample with a different collection technique.

I was asked to give the beginning of pee stream, hold and produce midstream pee.

After this, she asked me overall how I was feeling. I have been feeling by good besides for an increased heart rate which was expected as I tend to have sinus tachycardia episodes and I have started having cramps.

I tend to have occasional spotting which I am always advised to go and check. However, the baby has been moving so I haven’t really been concerned.

The cramps feel like period pain really , she said it is the body preparing for labour and Braxton Hicks. I am surprised because with my previous pregnancy I never had any of these.

The student midwife took my bloods and I can’t believe how good she was, I didn’t even feel it.

Then the midwife had a feel of the baby and the positioning.

She then assessed the baby’s heart rate which kind of gave me a little scare as she was coming up at 120 and then raising at 140, however after 5 minutes of assessing it the midwife said it’s because of the baby moving .

She was happy to assess the baby’s heart rate at 130 overall.

The way she went silent gave me anxiety but luckily everything went well.

She set up my 36 week appointment and ensured my Fetal medicine unit appointment for my growth scan was booked.

This was my experience at my 28 week appointment and I actually won’t have any appointments till next week which is great as I feel I have been running around going to endless appointments.
